Gird Writing Camp equips young professionals and students with requisite skills and tools for writing effectively in the creative, business and academic environments.


What is the goal of Gird Writing Camp?

Gird Writing Camp’s primary goal is to place functional literacy, critical thinking and effective communication at the forefront of the tools young people use to develop themselves and their community.


How is Gird Writing Camp 2016 structured?

Gird Writing Camp 2016 has two concurrent streams. The first stream engages junior and senior high students across Ghana in reading and writing workshops.

The other stream admits young professionals from the creative, business and academic environments for training workshops in various genres, namely, Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Business Writing, Academic Writing and Poetry.

Gird Writing Camp is open to writers, poets, bloggers, journalists, students, entrepreneurs and corporate professionals who want to improve their writing.

What to expect from Gird Writing Camp 2016?:

Gird Writing Camp 2016 brings some of Ghana’s outstanding creative, business and academic leaders like Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo, Dr. Martin Egblewobge , Prof. Esi Sutherland-Addy, Mr. Kobby Graham, Ms. Kate Addo, Dr. Obadele Kambon, Prof. Kofi Anyidoho, Ms. Ama Akuamoah Boateng, Mr. Samuel Ameyaw Ntiamoah and Nana Nyarko Boateng to provide knowledge sharing and growth opportunities for young professionals and students.

Business Writing Workshop:

The Business Writing Workshop is for young entrepreneurs and corporate professionals who want to add a competitive value to their business communication. The workshop focuses on cultivating the requisite language for writing within corporate settings.

  • Form and structure of business writing
  • Understanding audience in business writing
  • Letters and correspondence
  • Writing a business plan

  • Digital media and business writing

 Academic Writing Workshop:

The Academic Writing Workshop offers Post-Graduate and Undergraduate students the opportunity to meet with professors and learn the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ in academic writing. Participants will learn that academic writing is a conversation with other scholars, thus participants will focus on communicating their ideas to their discourse community.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Explore the types and forms of academic writing
  • Effective Summaries
  • Art of quoting
  • Discursive writing – how to present different sides of an argument
  • Structuring argument
  •  Shaping a distinct academic voice
  • Research Proposals and Personal Statements

Creative Writing Workshops:

The Creative Writing Workshops are designed to help writers, poets, bloggers and journalists who want to strengthen their writing voice and better their craft. The various workshops will focus on genre specific writing strategies as well as revision and editing strategies.

This year’s Creative Writing Workshops will cover the following forms:
